Summer In Ohio - Last Five Years

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

I sang this at the Showcase for Haiti. Together, we raised over $1,000 dollars and I am so proud I was able to share the experience with such a caring group of people. I woke up with laryngitis but with the help of honey, I was able to make it through. It is a bit rough, I'll admit, but I had a blast doing it! The show must go on!

What Is "Real"?

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

I am thrilled the fashion industry is promoting the bodies of full-figured women.  However, I am disappointed at the fact many magazines and bloggers such as Perez Hilton are referring to them as “real women”.  It is as if they are saying naturally thin women are not real.  Just because a woman has a petite and small frame does not mean she has an eating disorder.  The runway should feature women and men of different shapes and sizes but in reality, they are all real.  This world is filled with apple shapes, pear shapes, S-curves, and no curves.  The industry needs to respect all sizes and cease the labeling of what is “real”.

They all look pretty real to me.

beautiful, HEALTHY lashes

Thursday, March 18, 2010
When buying mascara, most people either look for volume, length, or curl.  What about health?  The true key to bold and beautiful lashes are the strong and healthy ones.  In reality, if you want length, you must keep your lashes moisturized just like you would with your hair.  If you want volume, you need to make sure your lashes aren't drying up and falling out.  I've seen so many woman with dried up clumpy lashes.  Woman cake on the mascara to get the false lash look but, when someone gets up close, their lashes look like creepy spider legs.

This is what we don't want.  Right, ladies?  Luckily, I have found a mascara that brings out the glow in my lashes.  When I apply Neutrogena: Healthy Volume Mascara, my lashes feel smooth, long, and beautiful.  This particular mascara contains olive oil which acts as a conditioner and adds shine.  The formula is clump-free, therefore, you can apply up to 3 layers and it will still be smooth.  As for the volume, Neutrogena claims this mascara plumps the lashes to make them 400x fuller.  I do not know if my lashes are 400% fuller, because I am not that technical of a person.....but I do know my lashes are definitely luscious!  My lashes don't fall out as much and the overall look is healthy yet still bold.  Experiment!  Try out different brands and see what works for YOU.  Just keep in mind, healthy lashes are beautiful lashes.

my obsession with rompers

Wednesday, March 17, 2010
Alright, alright....So I could have possibly gone overboard, but hey, I was having fun!
This is my outfit for Kent State's "Showcase for Haiti" concert where I will be singing a jazzy/comedic song from the musical "The Last Five Years".
Hopefully my cutesy romper will bring me good luck!

"Reasons to Be Pretty" Monologue - Neil LaBute

I absolutely adore Neil LaBute's works. He is an entirely honest and witty playwright, in which I find myself laughing at the true situations I often find myself in. I am using this piece for upcoming auditions, so I hope you enjoy it and believe my character. I want to be as honest of an actor as I can possibly be and I really feel Neil LaBute has helped me in sculpting my character.

P.S. I apologize if I am speaking too softly. I recorded this in my dorm and I didn't want to bother the people in the room next to me.

Happy Birthday: To the Most Important Person In the World

Tuesday, March 16, 2010
I have the greatest mom in the entire world.
She is the most selfless, caring, and beautiful woman I know.
I can talk to her about anything and she is always here to listen.
I am so blessed to be so close to my mom.
She is my best friend.
Not only is she beautiful and does not look her age (she looks much younger), but she is very fashionable.
Thanks to her, I was a very fashionable baby.
My mom supports me in my career choices and most importantly, she believes in me.
She has two children who love her very much.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Love always,
Jules

Get Wendla's look from Broadway's Hit Musical "Spring Awakening"

Christy Altomare (Left) from the National Broadway Tour and
Lea Michele (Right) from the Original Broadway Cast

Old News: I'm obsessed with Spring Awakening.  My love and dedication as a Spring Awakening "Guilty One" began six years ago when a friend of mine was auditioning for a role in the cast.  Since then, I have met the composer, Duncan Sheik, as well as every cast member from the Broadway Cast and National Tours including Christy Altomare (Wendla, and CCM graduate), Jake Epstein (as seen on Degrassi, Melchoir), Matt Doyle (as seen on Gossip Girl, Melchoir), Andy Mientus (attending Univ. of MI., Hanschen), and Alexandra Socha (Wendla).  I have seen the show a total of 5 times (NYC, Louisville, and Cincinnati) and I have watched the performance while seated on the stage.  This is my all-time favorite musical and I HIGHLY recommend every one to see it.  Believe me, it is unlike anything you will ever see.

Fashion: I was scoping out the latest fashions of Urban Outfitters and came across a lovely romper that resembled Wendla's.  For all of you Spring Awakening lovers out there AND all fashionistas looking for a pretty jumper, BUY THIS.

"My Love" - Sara Bareilles

He bends his breath around my name
And I am humbled
I feel small and plain
But his arms are angels by his side
You need not ask if they're open, just how wide

His lips are day
And his skin is night
Oooh, and with our love we conjure up the twilight
His fingers are music to my soul
And I feel his song play everywhere I go

My love, my love is on his way
I can't wait to see the day
I thankfully lay me down
Oh, my love, my love is on his way
I'm waiting patiently
But if you see me now
My love, please hurry

He loves with rhythm
And paints with flame
He comes in pieces with no name
I won't need answers, I'll just know
Cause I've read the sonnets about his soul

He can be ordinary in the best ways
And still dance like a poet
Through every word he says

My love, my love is on his way
I can't wait to see the day I thankfully
Lay me down
My love, my love is on his way
I'm waiting patiently
But if you see me now
My love, please hurry

All that I never knew
Can you see me now
All that I never said
Can you see me now

He makes me crazy
He makes me cruel
Oh, but I pray he makes me anything
But a fool

Oooh, my love
Please hurry

Beautiful Disaster (Cover- Kelly Clarkson)

I am trying to widen my pop repertoire, so I thought I would dive into the songs of Kelly Clarkson. I first decided to sing this song after I saw Gabby Garza (from the tour of Spring Awakening) perform it at a cabaret. I hope you like it!

Oh, and the Glee picture has no correlation with the song, ha. I just like Glee.
