Hello Fashionistas/os!
It's been a while. I haven't stopped blogging, though. I've been tending to my very neglected tumblr blog. I wish I could say I had time to write several times a week, but with my schedule this summer that will not be possible. Here's an update on me:

I perform six days a week and my only off day is on Thursdays. Thursdays are usually filled with catching up on my "social life" and family, of course.
I am also a sales associate at BCBGMAXAZRIA!! (This is new, so I am very very excited!)
I am working on my own personal endeavors.

Trust me, I have plenty of topics I need to blog about. When I find time, expect to hear about my new favorite T.V. shows, trends, and WEDDINGS. I have an undying passion for weddings and wedding planning that I wish to share with all of you!

Keep checking back and I promise I will catch up soon. In the meantime, check out my TUMBLR. I update it almost daily because I am simply posting pictures that I love/am inspired by. Hopefully the pictures will inspire you, as well!

I am a workaholic. I have known I’d be one since I began high school. I am a perfectionist and I love to stay busy so what better way than to make money while doing so? It’s not so bad because I happen to have one of the coolest jobs this summer. First of all, I work six days a week until my contract ends in September. I start getting ready at 1:00 p.m. before I leave at 2:20 p.m. This includes strategically curling tiny sections of my hair and pulling it out of my face, applying smokey-eyed makeup and awesome plum lipstick, and stretching out my body and………vocal chords. So what is this job, you might ask? I am a full-time professional performer at Kings Island! I am now legally a professional singer/dancer. Anyways, what is the point of this post? Well……I am thinking of taking on asecond job. I may be crazy, but I would love to have something to do in the morning and then drive straight to my Kings Island job. I already had a job set up in the winter to work for BCBG Max Azria over the summer, but then I scored my current job. I am going to see if they wouldn’t mind taking on another worker for a few mornings a week. I’m not sure if they are hiring anymore, but I might as well try.

I admire a countless number of fashion designers and each for quite varying reasons. Perhaps I am drawn to the exotic colors in a particular collection or I find the style and fit of the designers’ garments to be particularly flattering on my body type. No matter what the reason may be, I get my inspiration through different designers and their savoir-faire. Although I am influenced by a variety of designers, there is one particular man who never ceases to amaze me. From season to season, he creates beautiful garments that make most every woman of all shapes and sizes feel confident. Who is this man I speak so highly of? Meet Max Azria.

Max Azria is a very talented designer who understands the shape of a woman. He has several successful lines including Hervé Léger, BCBGeneration, Max Mara, Max and Cleo, Max and Miley, and my favorite BCBG Max Azria. In each of his clothing lines, he emphasizes the importance of feeling comfortable. It is almost impossible for a woman to act and feel confident if she feels uncomfortable in the garment she is donning. The fibers you will find most commonly in his garments are rayon, nylon, and spandex. Azria’s creations have a very flowing drape and it usually clings to the body to show off the curves. Thanks to the use of these stretchy, form-fitting fabrics, women are able to “mold” the garment to their body shape.

Beyond the conceptual ideas behind the design-process comes a strategically planned construction-process. While paying close attention to body shape, Max Azria places each ruffle, gather, pleat, and dart in the most flattering way possible. Making the customer look good is rather important, not only for self-esteem, but because it makes the designer look good. Most of Max’s designs can be described as sophisticated, sexy, and feminine. His garments range from a beautifully tiered halter dress with gathers to a tight and clingy “power skirt”. The “power skirt” is not to be worn by the shy and modest. It is for the bold and confident woman with nothing to hide.

Max Azria’s designs can be worn by all types of women. Whether the customer is a laid-back beach bum or a high-society business woman, there is the perfect garment waiting to be found. I could speak for hours on end about the reasons I find Max Azria so influential. Every time I enter his store, I feel the immediate urge to touch, try on, and purchase. No other designer has ever continuously had such a toxic impact on me. It is best I lock away my wallet before entering the store!

Sewing Fever

I have been swimming in ideas lately and it feels wonderful! Last night around 10 p.m., I decided to look through my spare fabric and I came across this gorgeous vintage fabric. The best part is, I found it for FREE in a bin at my fashion school almost 6 months ago. I had been dying to create a flirty, vintage-inspired summer dress with a cut-out back and last night was my chance! With "sew" many ideas, I just had to whip out my machine and create, create, create. After six hours of cutting, measuring, pinning, and bobbin-winding, my vision was complete. It turned out just how I had imagined it!

The length is perfect for my height and it is very form-fitting. The cut-out back is an innocent and modest way of showing some skin for the hot, summer days. Most importantly, I try to incorporate lace into many of my designs. It is the signature element in my pieces. As I tell most people, I am inspired by so many people, places, artists, and musicians, but I have four key ideas that I always draw from: black, purple, lace, and butterflies---these four ideas describe me as a designer and you can definitely see the influence it has made in my pieces.

because I have yearned for one for about 3 years now.
I could never find one that fit the length of my body, though.
This is the year! I have had such great luck with finding rompers and I now own four!
They are all very flattering and make my legs look longer and thinner!
Who doesn't want that? Buy a romper!

Summer In Ohio - Last Five Years

I sang this at the Showcase for Haiti. Together, we raised over $1,000 dollars and I am so proud I was able to share the experience with such a caring group of people. I woke up with laryngitis but with the help of honey, I was able to make it through. It is a bit rough, I'll admit, but I had a blast doing it! The show must go on!

What Is "Real"?

I am thrilled the fashion industry is promoting the bodies of full-figured women. However, I am disappointed at the fact many magazines and bloggers such as Perez Hilton are referring to them as “real women”. It is as if they are saying naturally thin women are not real. Just because a woman has a petite and small frame does not mean she has an eating disorder. The runway should feature women and men of different shapes and sizes but in reality, they are all real. This world is filled with apple shapes, pear shapes, S-curves, and no curves. The industry needs to respect all sizes and cease the labeling of what is “real”.

beautiful, HEALTHY lashes

When buying mascara, most people either look for volume, length, or curl. What about health? The true key to bold and beautiful lashes are the strong and healthy ones. In reality, if you want length, you must keep your lashes moisturized just like you would with your hair. If you want volume, you need to make sure your lashes aren't drying up and falling out. I've seen so many woman with dried up clumpy lashes. Woman cake on the mascara to get the false lash look but, when someone gets up close, their lashes look like creepy spider legs.

This is what we don't want. Right, ladies? Luckily, I have found a mascara that brings out the glow in my lashes. When I apply Neutrogena: Healthy Volume Mascara, my lashes feel smooth, long, and beautiful. This particular mascara contains olive oil which acts as a conditioner and adds shine. The formula is clump-free, therefore, you can apply up to 3 layers and it will still be smooth. As for the volume, Neutrogena claims this mascara plumps the lashes to make them 400x fuller. I do not know if my lashes are 400% fuller, because I am not that technical of a person.....but I do know my lashes are definitely luscious! My lashes don't fall out as much and the overall look is healthy yet still bold. Experiment! Try out different brands and see what works for YOU. Just keep in mind, healthy lashes are beautiful lashes.

I am using this piece for upcoming auditions, so I hope you enjoy it and believe my character. I want to be as honest of an actor as I can possibly be and I really feel Neil LaBute has helped me in sculpting my character.

Old News: I'm obsessed with Spring Awakening. My love and dedication as a Spring Awakening "Guilty One" began six years ago when a friend of mine was auditioning for a role in the cast. Since then, I have met the composer, Duncan Sheik, as well as every cast member from the Broadway Cast and National Tours including Christy Altomare (Wendla, and CCM graduate), Jake Epstein (as seen on Degrassi, Melchoir), Matt Doyle (as seen on Gossip Girl, Melchoir), Andy Mientus (attending Univ. of MI., Hanschen), and Alexandra Socha (Wendla). I have seen the show a total of 5 times (NYC, Louisville, and Cincinnati) and I have watched the performance while seated on the stage. This is my all-time favorite musical and I HIGHLY recommend every one to see it. Believe me, it is unlike anything you will ever see.

I have every reason to feel bitter, sad, angry, no, FURIOUS, and just down-right depressed. When it rains it pours, but damn it, it has been pouring for two weeks straight. I am writing this blog to tell you that you can never be too careful. I'm not just speaking of only materialistic items, but your heart as well. Protect your wallet and protect you heart. And most importantly, don't try to steal money from me.

P.S. Kent State Fashion Majors: The person who stole from me is among us. My wallet was taken in Rockwell's bathroom. Therefore, take your purses inside the stall WITH you. Don't leave it out on the counter.

addicted to the knife

What makes one feel beautiful? Is it your family or friends? What about your dazzling personality and genuine kind nature? Many of us would say none of the above. In reality, most woman can agree clothes, makeup, and jewelry make us feel beautiful. Of course, there are several factors that contribute to our happiness and our feeling of confidence and beauty, but many (even I) rely on a shopping fix or a new lip color to boost spirits.

However, when do we say enough is enough and just be content? The pressures to look good have grown to such great heights that in 2008, over 10 million people turned to plastic surgery for non-medical reasons. Liposuction, breast implants, nips, tucks, and BOTOX. Perhaps referred to as one of the most common "minor" surgeries, Botox, can alter a face to the point we can no longer recognize the person. What I find so outrageous is people are set out to find ways to slow down their aging and to keep a fresh young face. Since when did aging become negative? It is a part of life. Sure, wrinkles and sagging make one feel old, but that is the way of life. Sixty year-old women, should not look like they are in their 30s and most certainly should not have perky round breasts while the rest of their body is sagging in comparison.

Our generation is becoming so dependent on surgical procedures to halt the aging and to fix what some consider "imperfections". What happened to true natural beauty? Makeup is normal. Botox and tattoo eyeliner is not. One of the most recent procedures most talked about on celebrity gossip sites is the dozen of surgeries Heidi Montag went through. I never thought I would mention her on my blog, but it HAS come to this. Heidi looked like a natural, pretty woman before the surgeries. I see her now and I am afraid she may melt in the sun. She looks plastic. Surely, men do not find that appealing. If they do, well then, that is full proof of how superficial our world has become.

It is scary how books such as "Brave New World", written in 1931, have many parallels to the world we live in now. What will be next?

Stuffy-Nose Chic: How to Work It When You're Sick

^This is exactly how I have felt today....maybe I should sport this toilet paper hat? ;)

The inspiration for this post? I am sick. I've been stuffy, sneezy, the sore throat, the whole nine yards for the past 4 days. When I don't feel well, it is hard to find motivation to not look like a complete ill mess. However, even though I find strength to get to class, I feel ugly and gross. My nose is red from blowing it all day, I am sneezing every ten minutes it seems, and I can't hear well so people have to talk louder. How do I work with this? Here are a few tips I have gathered throughout the past couple of days:

1. Wear comfy yoga pants or leggings
2. Pair it with a soft, warm but fitted sweater
3. Messy bun.....but you know, the kind that you actually strategically planned and tried over and over again to make it "look" messy but still cute.
4. I've been wearing my black Bear Claw boots. This is not a fashion offense because my stretchy pants are tight fitting. I wouldn't wear "ugg-styled" boots with baggy sweatpants.
5. Carry box a tissues, water, and throat drops (Ricola!), and HAND SANITIZER.

You may be sniffling all day and feel terrible, but it actually makes me feel a little better if I put some makeup on and try to look presentable. I can control at least that much of my appearance.

2. Play up your eyes!
3. If you have redness around the nose.....I say just leave it alone so you don't cause more irritation.

But, hey, if you are really feeling awful then just stay home! Read a book, relax, and drink something warm. It is a pain to miss class and have to make up work but you won't feel well enough to pay attention anyways so you might as well get some rest so you can get better sooner.

Home Remedies For a Better and Clearer Skin

We all know how much of a struggle our skin can be. Too dry? Too oily? Zits, one after another? I don't know about you, but my skin decides to act up whenever I am going somewhere important where I must look my best. Funny how that works out! I have tried numerous meds and topical gel prescribed to me by the derm, but the results are only temporary. It won't be long until my skin return back to its normal rebellious self. So where do I go from here?

I turned to the kitchen and discovered two cures.

1. Apple cider vinegar + water, anyone? Yes, try it. Create a mixture of half water and half apple cider vinegar and dip your cotton ball. Use it all over your face like you would with a toner. It smells of, well, apples and vinegar but it will wear off. I suggest you use it at night before bed.

2. Toothpaste. You have heard it before, and I will emphasize this point again! Toothpaste WORKS! Don't expect your underground red zits to disappear after one night but it definitely gets the swelling and redness down. I tap my pointer finger on the mouth of the container and just work the toothpaste into the zit. You will have white dots all over your face depending on where the zit is, but just leave it over night. You will notice how much better your skin looks and feels.

As far as moisturizing, I've been using Aveeno's Positively Ageless Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30. I am not in need of age defying moisturizer but I borrowed it from my mom and enjoyed my skin in result of using it. It feels very soft and helped my skin find its glow.

If you have oily skin, I would try a moisturizer with salicylic acid. For dry skin, find moisturizer with shea butter.

H&M and Walmart's Disappointing Move

As many of you have already heard, the H&M in Manhattan's Herald Square has been reportedly destroying their own unsold clothing by slashing it with razors. This is such a massive no-no to be made, especially in this horrible economy. Imagine all of the children who are without food and clothing, freezing in winter weather, and here is H&M and even Walmart, ruining perfectly wearable clothing so not a single being can put it to use. What a waste. You would think such large and reputable companies would consider donating to a good cause or even having a blowout sale.

After the controversy had been made public, H&M decided to reconsider their poor judgment. As of January 7th, H&M has promised to stop destroying their unsold clothing. Hopefully they will decide to reuse and recycle the way this planet has been trying to promote for the past decade. We have not yet heard from Walmart but I am crossing my fingers they make the right decision, otherwise many once-loyal customers will be sure to boycott.

Most importantly: Remember everything happens for a reason.

*In reality, this is not a list of resolutions because I try to fulfill these wishes every day of every year. My list for 2010 does not look much different from my lists in 2009, 2008, 2007 and so on. My resolutions in 2011 will most likely follow the pattern. My point? We should constantly reach for our goals and how we want to live our lives. Making a list is a great way to remind ourselves of how we are evolving and how we are growing to get closer to reaching our goals.

So here it is - My design for the "Project Rockwell" fashion show. The objective was to purchase a garment from Goodwill or from another second-hand store for under $10 and create a beautiful wardrobe out of it. We needed to completely transform it from it's original look.

My dear old blog has undergone a much needed makeover. Now that I've mastered the art of html, I can change it up more frequently. I was growing rather bored of the same old classic blogger so it was time to spice up the pages.

It is Christmas Eve and I am home for the next three weeks. What shall I do with this alloted amount of time? I plan to see old friends, go to the movies, see musicals, ice skate, and practice for my auditions coming up. I hope everyone is enjoying the winter weather and going to fabulous parties in fabulous wardrobes.

I know I'm a little late since this show has been out for quite some time .....BUT, I finally got the chance to watch it last night and I am HOOKED. I watched the complete season 1 and stayed up until the wee hours of the morning just in awe of how addicting vampires truly are. I love how this show sticks true to the old vampire legends. How the blood-suckers will burn if they are out in the sun--not sparkle, how they cannot enter a house unless they are invited in, and how they must be staked through the heart in order to become a corpse. Not only do I love the action and deathly battles, but I am also in love the cast. First of all, every one is super attractive. I mean, what can you expect? Vamps are supposedly beautiful and seductive creatures. Check and check. Damon (Ian Somerhalder), who is the cocky and evil older brother of Stefan (Paul Wesley) may just happen to be one of the most attractive men I have ever seen. I am not exaggerating.

Let me tell you first hand, both of these pants are wonderful. I had my eye on the BCBGeneration ones for quite some time but when I stumbled up on the Max and Miley pants, I gasped. THEY ARE SO SIMILAR. In fact, I've forgotten the differences and now wear my just-as-stylish $20 Max and Miley leggings. Psssst---for you people who dislike passing off leggings as pants, well, these particular styles look just like black pants. They come equipped with bum pockets, zipper, and belt loops just like any pair of pants......only these are better because they give you the comfort of leggings but the appearance of pants!

BCBG Over-The-Knee Boots - $495 (On Sale for $346.50) VS. Chinese Laundry Over-the Knee Boots - $119

I have to admit, I am a sucker for the BCBG boots and they are definitely worth the price. HOWEVER, Chinese Laundry is a very good substitute if you are on a budget. Both boots are over-the-knee but allow you the option of rolling it down to be at the knee. Boots are a very important accessory to my wardrobe and I tend to splurge because I know I will wear them until their death. On the other hand, the less you pay for boots, the more new pairs you can buy in the future with the money you didn't spend!

I am so excited for Rodarte x Target! Rodarte creates some of the most beautiful and interesting garments I have ever seen. Many celebs use Rodarte as a go-to designer to look absolutely fabulous on the Red Carpet. Actresses such as Natalie Portman and Reese Witherspoon have been most famously seen wearing Rodarte, which is a smart move on account it always lands them on the "best dressed" list!

Natalie Portman looked absolutely stunning at the Academy Awards 2009.

She was quite the hot commodity on all of the gossip sites gushing about her elegant princess look.

Designed to be auctioned off to support the World Wildlife Fund, he has been sold for 1,500 dollars. Good job, Spongebob. Karl, you rock.

Life.
I feel so blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful people. I am really lucky to have them. I am also thankful to be where I am in life. I am thankful for my home and having a nice, quiet place to come back to on holidays such as this one. I am thankful for being able to attend college in this economy and especially thankful for being a fashion design major. Nothing is perfect but I feel very content with where I am and where I am heading. Most of all, I am thankful for God and how I always turn to Him and He is always listening.

Yes, I am another one of those "Twilight Nerds". I began reading the series my junior year of high school and danced with pure and utter happiness when I discovered a movie was in-the-making. I already knew it would be a huge hit among the teens and up but who knew even the moms and pops would love it too! I was first introduced to the series by my neighbor who is in her forties. Enthralled by the dangerously romantic story along with Edward's bad boy vibe, she highly highly recommended it. There is something about Stephanie Meyer's whimsical story-telling that attracts readers in hopes of scoring their very own Edward Cullen. I am quite guilty of it myself.

Now, the moment we "Twi-hards" have all been waiting for---the release of the second installment to the Twilight Saga: New Moon. I can hardly believe the time has already come and I am glad it is finally here. Not only is New Moon my favorite book out of the series, but I am also curious to see the talented Dakota Fanning take on the role of the dangerous, Jane, ranked high of the Volturi. New Moon, with all its hype, seems to carry the potential to top Twilight. With even more romance, action, and let's face it....eight packs, it is bound to woo the adoring fans and their expectations.

Who else is excited for the Victoria's Secret runway show?! I get fired up every year to watch the gorgeous girls and the b-e-a-utiful wings that I wish I could purchase and prance around in for fun. I'm lame, I know. The lingerie is so pretty and it is very entertaining to watch. Okay, so we obviously envy the super long, lean, and immaculate Angels. Even though I start analyzing my own body and ask myself "Why can't I be tall like a VS model and get all the boys?", I still can't help but watch it! I even record it and watch it over and over again. Confession: After watching last year's show 3 times, my good friend and I strapped on some heels and pranced around her house in our not-so-cool undergarments pretending to be VS runway models. Now that I'm embarrassed by that last statement, I am leaving. Adieu.

Save Luella and the rest of the world

The quirky British fashion label, Luella, ceased trading after the producer, Carla Carini, unexpectedly closed last month and the ss10 line could not fulfill its orders. Luella Bartley won British Fashion Awards' Designer of the Year last year and has been worn by several celebrities such as Kate Moss and Alexa Chung. Luella is a a British fashion favorite, which is why it saddens me to see such a unique line fall. This recession is the most horrible thing to happen to our generation. Families losing their jobs and houses, students dropping out of college due to not being able to afford it, scholarships not being given out as frequently, and dreams are being crushed due to lack of money to support them. I can't even explain how much it saddens me we must witness this. I want to save Luella as much as the next fashionable fan, but I also want to save the rest of this world. Not only is Luella hurting, but many other designers as well. If Luella is one of the first to go, well, it won't stop there. Next it will be an even bigger label like Dior (I have no sources on that, I'm just using an example). I mean, Conde Nast just closed numerous magazines--Elle Girl--being one of them. I just hope and pray that we will pull ourselves out of this recession and things will soon start looking up. *Finger crossed*

I am SO happy to welcome back the sophisticated trend form the 1980s! For the past several months I have been noticing numerous designers extremely accentuating the shoulders in their latest fashion lines and it is beautiful. Rather than using shoulder pads to solely broaden the shoulders, these pads are giving women a hand with the hourglass shape--without adding bulk and creating a look of classic Hollywood glamour. Being such a huge fan of taking a classic look and reinventing it, I, myself, am taking the liberty in using shoulder pads in my personal designs and creations. I can not wait to see how this trend will blossom and I do hope it sticks around for quite a long time!

It has been one of my dreams to style and design for BCBG one of these days. Max Azria has several beautiful lines but one of my all-time favorites is BCBGeneration. This collection is geared towards the younger crowd but still remains classy. Here are two of my favorites pieces at the moment.

Cute and sassy, right? I am very inspired by these pieces right now and I am in the process of creating a black, textured, velvet mini skirt for the winter season! I'll post pictures once it is finished!

only aladdin can pull off harem pants

I...I....I just can't figure out why harem pants are the next big thing. What is it with these pants? I just don't find them flattering to a women's figure in the least bit. The lower the crotch, the more disproportionate the person wearing it appears. I am a fan of pants that elongate the legs and create nice sleek lines following the natural curves of the body. To be honest, I don't want to be curvy between my legs.

Maybe it is just me in thinking that these pants are a flop. I love how the fashion trends are constantly changing but this is one trend I am not going to follow. The harem pant was actually first introduced in the 1920s but as the fashion cycle continues, we continue to dig styles out of the fashion graveyard. Perhaps it should have stayed buried. Yes, I saw some celebs, such as Rihanna, sporting the harem look, but as much as I dig Rihanna, it did not flatter her beautiful, strong figure. It is too penguin-esque. We should just leave the harem trousers for Aladdin and try a different trend. Hopefully the harem fad fades and quick!

I'm disappointed in you, Ralph Lauren. In a world where people criticize even a size 2, I would never think RL would stoop to that level. That is detrimental to the health of future generations. Society needs to stop being so superficial and realize people of all shapes and sizes are beautiful. The idea of beauty and what is socially accepted is entirely distorted to the point where young girls feel they need to be dangerously thin in order to fit the "norm". Hello? THIS IS NOT NORMAL. Photoshopping a perfectly proportional and already slim model to look like a distorted alien is not what this society needs. I think America, like Europe, should put health stamps on the photos that have been edited. The young people looking at these ads need to realize what they see is not real. It is a computer-enhanced photo and no one is that flawless. I completely understand the pressures. I STILL, to this very day, feel pressure to look like the inhuman computer-made race that our society is deeming as beautiful or sexy. They are not real. Don't believe it for one second because you will set your standards too high for any human to meet.

I've been quite the busy college student this past week---so busy that I haven't been able to blog. In my Fashion Visuals class we are making a clothing line made from plain white 100% cotton t-shirts. My group's line is called "Criminal". Our look is 1990s Seattle Grunge/ street urban chic. Imagine chains, studs, black, and bursts of dark color. We dyed our shirts a dark grey and some reds, splashed bleach on some pieces and now we are sewing away. Instead of making a shirt we are making dresses. We purchased men's XL v-necks from Walmart and we are cinching the waists. It is such an exciting project and it is really coming together! On top of our company's lines, we are also making one personal piece which reflects us and our own style. My dress could probably be described as "gothic and distressed baby doll". It features black lace, a ribbony trim, along with a hint of sequins and elastic-drawn waist. I will be sure to post pictures once we are in the final stages! Our teacher will be choosing designs to be sold at a store outside of Kent, Ohio. We will get the profits. I am so excited to show you our creations! Stay tuned!

Mistake 1: The Schlumpy Leather Jacket

Problem: There's nothing modern-or even retro-cool-about a leather jacket that fits like a rain poncho.

Solution: When trying on a new leather jacket, keep going down a size until you can't get it on, then buy the next size up. It should feel snug as a wetsuit but will take your body's shape over time. The coolest style right now? The bomber you see here.

Solution: Medium-rise raw denim jeans sit at the most flatter place (on your hips), follow your legs (instead of saddlebagging out from your waist), and form-fit to you as you break them in. Oh, and while you’re at it, replace the Seinfeld-esque running shoes with some lace-ups or classic sneaks.

Mistake 3: The Cheap Printed Tie

Problem: Let’s pretend this tie isn’t a little ugly. And tied too long. It still isn’t working. Why? A cheap thin silk tie gets you an unacceptably tiny knot.

Solution: Go for a sturdier silk tie, which’ll make for a solid knot. Plus, keep any patterns understated. Also, a quick note on length: The tip of your tie should not hang below the waistline of your pants.

Mistake 4: Sagging Suit Pants

Remember: Tailors are used to working with guys who don’t know what they want. Be assertive so he understands that you’re after a specific look and don’t just want “the usual.”

Mistake 6: Right Suit, Wrong Belt

Problem: You want Tiger Woods's swing, not his style, especially when wearing a suit. A silver-tipped faux cowboy belt is not a dress belt. If you've got one, retire it.

Solution: Invest in a high-quality leather beltthat's an inch to an inch and a half wide. If it smells and feels buttery, that means it'll age beautifully. And the buckle should be subtle.

Mistake 7: The Oversize Suit

Problem: You invested in a dark handsome suit, but you look a little...eh in it. Know why? It's a size too big, and all that extra material is boxing (shoulders), sagging (waist), and flopping (ankles).

Solution: Repeat the leather-jacket method from the opening page. When trying on a suit, keep going down a size in the jacket until it gets uncomfortable. Then go one size up and buy that. And unless you’re over six feet two, buy a regular length, not a long.

It is officially cold at Kent State University. The picture you see is only half of the layers I actually wore outside. On top of the chilly temp., it was raining. Perfect recipe to contract the flu or something worse (oink). Although it was rather nasty outside, I am very happy to see the temperature dropping. I love weather 50 and below. Most people enjoy the hot, summer sun, but I am the opposite. I enjoy wearing lots of layers and still looking stylish. I avoid the Human Marshmallow wardrobe at all costs!

What I'm wearing:

-Black Dance Tights: they are thicker than "panty hose" to allow more comfort in the cold and they don't snag as easily

-Vertan Italia Boots: my all-time favorite piece in the fall/winter; most comfortable boots ever and I have worn them for 3 years now; they hold up well-----however, I am finally getting a new pair of black boots (over-the-knee!)

-Basic LBD: I got this one from Forever 21; simple, easy, comfy, inexpensive

-Electric Blue Shrug: This is from Express, although I purchased it at a discount store for $3.99. It is a great piece to spice up my dark fall look

-Huge Purple Scarf: Yay, birthday presents! Urban Outfitters--super warm, worth the price

I can't even tell you how glad I am to finally be eighteen. Being seventeen truly has its disadvantages because all of your 18 year-old + friends can go on and do things without you. Not only that, I could not apply for the jobs I really wanted. I am now old enough to intern, work at Disneyland, sign my own papers, go to college parties, salsa dance with friends and much more. I have a feeling being twenty is going to be a lot like seventeen. Well, in that case, I can't wait to be twenty-TWO.

The new TV series, "The Beautiful Life", produced by Ashton Kutcher, is being cancelled! With losing nearly 60 percent of the audience after ANTM, the second episode only had 1 million viewers. I am incredibly bummed out. I have nothing more to say. *Weeps*

I am in love with this show! I always look forward to Wednesday nights for my back-to-back tv shows--ANTM (petite!) and The Beautiful Life. Not only do I have a huge crush on Ben Hollingsworth, Sara Paxton's love interest, but I have am very intrigued by runway models. It takes place in the one and only NYC and it tells a story about the underground lives of the up and coming models. It gives us another perspective of the not-always-so-glamorous life of a model. Did I mention my huge crush on Ben Hollingsworth (Chris)? YIKES. Where do these men come from? Why can't I meet them?

numbers vs. words

So Timmy and I were having a discussion about words and numbers. As always, I think way too much into things and it brought me into a huge rant about how I love words (not trying to offend the number people). I love how words can be manipulated. They can be interpreted in any way which can make them abstract at times. I realize after this discussion, definite situations scare me. Now, I'm really stretching this numbers VS. words topic, but I must say this: If there is only one way to go about doing something, only one way, no other way will cut it, then that is that. BUT, what if I don't like that particular way? What if I had my own way in mind. Then, I'm toast. I want to have a say. I don't want to have it mapped out for me. I want to be part of the process in solving the problem. I don't like there being only one way to get to the gold. There must be other paths, other decisions that can be made to create a new way to get to the point. I need choices.

I've been kind of emotional this week. I'm reflecting and I'm not liking all of the memories that are coming back. I need some alone time but there isn't anywhere I can really just be alone. That's the problem with college. Sometimes I need to be secluded in a small place where I can just think, ponder, question, write, sing.....and not worry about bothering people.

I really liked my outfit today.

I don't have a topic this time. I just feel like telling you my current state-of-mind since I can't seem to focus on anything else. I really miss my dog, Mischa. She is the best creature in my life. Words can not even fathom how deeply I care for her.

"Horror Girls" has been featured at Topshop and is a spin off of Hammer House of Horror. This line includes 80's inspired denim jackets, slashed pants, and an overall grunge look. I particularly am drawn to the old victorian and Gothic style with the velvet and feminine black lace, cob-webbed lace, chiffon ruffles and other delicate fabrics. The bags are slouchy and covered in zippers, metal, and studs--pure rocker-look (my favorite kind of bag). This is a collection you want to keep an eye out for.

Say what you will, but I think Taylor Momsen has such a cool look. I love her fashion on Gossip Girl as well as her street style. I do agree that she doesn't dress/act her age, but this is the 21st century and this generation wants to grow up fast thanks to the media. With that aside, I'm strictly focusing on Momsen's style. Also, gotta love GG stylist Eric Daman. You're the bomb.

Yeah so....black is one of my favorites colors which is not a shock. I picked out some looks by Christopher Kane that I am fond of. I am not going to gain the freshman fifteen. I refuse. But, the choices we have as college students is so limiting. Why can't they just make it on whole wheat bread? Everyone knows it is better for you. To stay healthy, I stay away from the starchy white carbs as much as I can. For breakfast I eat a little yogurt, a lot of fruit, scrambled eggs, and maybe one piece of whole wheat toast. I make sure to drink orange juice every morning to get my Vit-C to prevent the swinnnnnne and other sicknesses. For lunch I usually pick up a spinach salad with low fat Italian (sour....) and more fruit. Dinner is always up in the air. I try to get grilled chicken. No matter what, though, I need to exercise. It is hard to find time with classes and projects but since I've been doing those 8-minute workouts, it has made me feel 1000 x better. I love walking around campus (I have no choice, really). I have been using my 5 pound arm weights (hah) and my ankle weights......hopefully I can tone and firm up within the next month or so. Oh, but don't worry....I haven't completely forgotten my love for chocolate chip cookies. My roomie and I just bought some dough yesterday. :D

I just did some intense 8-minute workouts and boy, did I feel the burn! These workouts are short, intense, and convenient. These are the perfect exercises to do, especially if you are a college student. If you have some time in between a class, pull up youtube and do the workout. You don't need much space. Trust me. Plus, who doesn't like cheesy 90's workouts with buff men in spandex? Do it.

My Fiona Apple album just arrived in the mail and I can’t stop listening to it. Her music has such a unique style to it. Almost every song has an eerie chord thrown in there that creates such a beautifully dissonant sound. I wanted to know more about her; why her music sounds the way it does. After research, I discovered something that shocked me yet now it all makes sense. “After joking to a friend at the age of 11 that she was going to kill her sister and herself, Apple's parents placed her in therapy. The following year, she was raped on her way home from school.” Wow. She, like many other musicians, has been affected by something so traumatic that it is life-altering. I can feel her pain through her dramatic piano compositions and her sincere lyrics. Honestly, the piano is the very instrument that makes me cry, smile, just feel more than any other instrument. I don’t need an entire band to be inspired. All it takes is a piano, a beautiful voice, and honest-to-God lyrics. If you haven’t heard her music yet, I highly recommend the album “Extraordinary Machine” and "When the Pawn...". If you want to hear the song written about her rape, listen to “Sullen Girl” which is on her "Tidal" album.

I just recently joined the Fashion Student Organization (FSO). In October we are participating in a Barbie-themed runway show--submitting designs, helping with hair and makeup, and even getting the chance to walk the runway. Since there were no height restrictions, I decided to try the modeling. I figured, hey, I'll probably never get to do this any other time, so what the heck. I am super excited to wear the designs and to just try something I have always wanted to try.

Hello bloggers.

It's been about a year since I've written in here. I want to bring this blog back to life! I am currently studying a Fashion Design degree and so far, it is one of the best decisions I have made. I'm still going to blog about beauty products and fashion but I am going to step it up a notch and give you more information about the top designers, budding designers, who to keep up with, and other interesting things you may want to know. Fashion Week will definitely be a big topic. I'm not only limiting this blog to fashion-related topics. I may include musicians and books--that sort of thing. I'm going to try to balance Fashion Awakening and all of my school work the best I can so keep checking back!

the shampoo that turns heads

I can not tell you how many people I've had approach me complimenting on the scent of my hair. Even boys tell me. What is this divine product?

I use Victoria's Secret "So Sexy" Shampoo and Conditioner. It is Heaven for your nostrils. There are three types: volumizing, nourishing, or a set for normal hair. I have used all three. However, I prefer the nourishing set because it gives extra shine and bounce to your locks. No matter which set you purchase, prepare to be noticed.

When it is hot and humid in the summer time, it is just not worth trying to straighten my hair. Instead, I have been using Enzo Milano's 13 mm curling iron. I wrap my hair around it loosely to prevent tight spiral curls, then I flip my head over and shake it out. What's even better is it will last for a couple days (You don't even need to wash your hair--no one will ever know). If you want bigger curls, try the 3/4 inch or the 1 inch. This hot rod is different from most curling irons because it does not have the clamp. Before you know it, you will create a head full of beautiful, unique curls and everyone will be dying to know your secret. Highly recommended.

This is my t-shirt design for art class. If you ever get the chance to visit NYC, SoHo should be on your list of places to go. Awesome stores like Exstaza, Anna Sui, Urban Outfitters, and other designers are there. Of course there are the more high-end shops like Chanel, Burberry, and Louis Vuitton, but there are also more affordable shops (Exstaza-my favorite). If you dream of moving to NYC here's some advice I've received from others:

1. Sell your car
-I can vouch for that. There is no sense of driving in New York. It's quicker to walk. Plus, it's good for the calves.
2. Save a lot of money before you move
-You won't feel so pressured to find a job right away. You will be able to settle into your apartment.
3. Know someone
-NYC is a big city which can get overwhelming. It's always nice to have a familiar face by your side.

These pieces of advice are actually a note-to-self. I enjoy writing this blog in hopes of helping out others, but it also helps me too.

I love BCBG. Period. It's name really says it all--bon chic bon genre meaning "good style, good class". Max Azria's collection is classy, unique, and who can't help but feel absolutely stunning in one of his dresses? I often go to BCBG stores, when I have the chance, and try on the most beautiful dresses. I love the feeling of the gauzy fabrics. Anyways, the point of this is to inform you that BCBG is coming to Macy's. You may be able to use your Macy's coupons on your purchases--I'll double check on that. Either way it is a bit on the pricey side, but we all deserve a splurge every now and then, right? Save up your money. Buy yourself a sassy, cocktail dress. Wear it to homecoming, senior dinner dance, or out on a date. Either way, every girl should own a dress designed by Max Azria.

my best kept secret

Every now and then I drive about 25 miles to my secret destination. It is FASHION HEAVEN--filled with Von Dutch, Kitson, Urban Outfitters, Ed Hardy, Juicy Couture--but for beyond low prices. So... yesterday, I packed into my funky Jeep Cherokee with my mom and brother and we embarked on our little shopping adventure. When we arrived I almost had a fashion attack (haha cheesy). I picked up a very classy LBD. Picture Audrey Hepburn's dress in Breakfast At Tiffany's but knee length. This dress is regular $80 but the price tag was marked $9.00. However, when I brought it up to the register it was actually marked down to $2.50! Is this amazing store legal?? Yes, it is. What is it? It is a discount store that carries overstocks, defective but repairable items, and other name brands. I bought a pair of $200 Kitson jeans for $40 which were in perfect condition. This store is my best kept secret. Maybe one day I will reveal it's location. Keep checking my blog. :)

We all have insecurities. And for a lot of us, the biggest insecurity is with our bodies, right? I've had my share of breakdowns in the dressing room while trying on several pairs of jeans that just would not fit right. It's not a good feeling. Now that summer is over and school is back in session, it's time to get our bodies back in shape--back to looking awesome in those skinny jeans (although, wide-legged pants ARE making a comeback). I decided to cut out all carbs for at least a week. Just after four days of eggs in the morning, salad with chicken for lunch, and fish and broccoli for dinner, I felt slimmer. Cutting out carbs keeps you from feeling bloated. Plus, extra protein in your diet is great for taking over the fat that can potentially lead to intense cellulite. Just give it a whirl and let your body feel the benefits.

I know what you're thinking....not another one of those. Well, this is no joke. This mascara truly works. This is coming from a part-Korean girl who, unfortunately, wasn't blessed with curvy lashes. To all of my fellow straight-lashers, here's a little secret: Start off by gently curling the lashes with, my favorite, Shu Uemura eyelash curler ($19 at Sephora). Next, swipe on Shiseido's Makeup Lasting Lift Mascara ($22). Voila. Your eyelashes are lookin' luscious, curled, thick, as if you painted on perfect lashes. This is long-lasting, so expect it to stay on if you decide to take a dive into a pool.

Hey everyone!

I'm Julia. I like chocolate and I love writing. Better yet, I like eating chocolate while writing, which I am doing as we speak. I created this blog as a creative outlet for myself. I have so many thoughts that circuit through my head and the only way out is for me to physically write it into words. So here it is--Fashion Awakening. Why the name? Well, as said before, I need creative outlets and fashion is one them. It is the way I express myself. This is also a blog about fashion; hence the first part of the title. Now Awakening....."Spring Awakening" is one of my all-time favorite musicals that I was so graciously able to see on Broadway.
